What does a litigation guardian do?
Attends all court hearings related to their appointment.
Supports the person to understand the process and proceedings.
Liaises with the person’s lawyer or supports them to access legal advice.
Supports the individual to engage with the Department for Child Protection and address child protection concerns where possible.
Assists the person to access appropriate referral services.
Explores the parent’s legal options and advises on how to respond to the court order.
Represents the person’s best interests, involving them as much as possible and only making decisions on behalf of the person where necessary.
